Overview

The Vermont Department of Health (VDH) is excited to hire a Team Lead and Public Health Analyst III in the Research Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit (REE) of the Division of Health Statistics and Informatics (HSI). This position is the lead for injury and violence prevention surveillance in HSI and is the Principal Investigator for the Vermont Violent Death Reporting System (VTVDRS). The Team Lead will provide oversight of projects completed by injury and violence prevention analysts, produce public reports on injury and violence prevention in Vermont, complete required grant activities and reporting, and pursue additional grant funding opportunities.

As the VTVDRS Principal Investigator, the analyst oversees data collection, abstraction, quality assurance and analysis of the VTVDRS and the State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS). The position will work closely with partners to improve data quality within VTVDRS/SUDORS and efficiencies and data modernization of case abstraction and reporting. The position is responsible for meeting CDC grant deadlines and deliverables, and organizing staff to meet there requirements.

As the Injury and Violence Prevention Team Lead, the position completes statistical analysis and reporting of data related to injury and violence in Vermont. The team lead provides guidance and mentorship to several analysts working on morbidity and mortality projects related to suicide, homicide, firearm deaths, unnatural child deaths, maternal mortality, drowning, transportation related injuries and other injury-related topics. This requires knowledge of a statistical software package as well as data collection, management, analysis, and visualization. The position will be expected to become and expert in understanding the injury related data available for different topic areas. The lead works with other divisions to determine, manage, and prioritize analytic and evaluation needs. They will also triage and respond to data requests, develop data publication and presentations for stakeholders.

The analyst is expected to work with multiple teams, including the HSI-REE Unit, the Family and Child Health Injury and Violence Prevention team, the Division of Emergency Preparedness, Response and Injury Prevention team, support fatality review teams and engage in special topic workgroups. Expertise in Microsoft Office and statistical analysis software (SAS, SPSS, R, etc.) is required. Experience with Microsoft PowerBI and GIS software desired but not required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Meetings with data users and providers may require some travel, for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required.
