POSITION SUMMARY

The Psychiatric Technician is an integral part of the team concept in Wheeler’s health delivery system, which is devoted to the delivery of integrated primary care in an ambulatory setting with emphases on prevention and health maintenance. This position helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance. The psychiatric technician is a behavioral health professional who efficiently collects and records private health information of people with behavioral health/ psychiatric disorders/medical conditions. Psych Tech then distills the information unto the Triage Clinician who then assigns a diagnosis and co-develops with the medical provider a course of treatment.

Hourly Rate: $22.00

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s in social work, counseling, psychology or related field preferred. A person with certification in addiction counseling (CADC) or DARC certificate and 1 year experience will be considered. Or an Associate’s degree and 3 years relevant experience.

    A valid driver’s license and access to timely and reliable transportation are required. Position may require immediate and flexible coverage at multiple locations.

    Must have knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. Ability to interact with interns, and/or staff in a team environment, as well as ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards required. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with EHRs required. Bi-lingual is preferred.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Rooms patients and collects vitals including height, weight, blood pressure and temperature.

    Reviews patient informed consent and rights & responsibilities with patients.

    Conducts/collects questionnaire data, e.g., PHQ 9, PRAPARE, DLA-20, OHIO, CAGE, ACE

    Observing patients’ behavior, listening to their concerns, and documenting their chief complaint, social, family, legal, health, educational histories, and other fields into the Electronic Health Record.

    Adept at conducting mental status examination (MSE) and documenting results into EHR.

    Conducting summary/warm hand offs with the Triage Clinician regarding the patient’s presentation, chief complaint, and condition.

    Collaborates with medical, Behavioral Health Consultant, Specialty BH and Psychiatry.

    Performs toxicology screens with patients and accurately reads results.

    Participates in regular supervision meetings with supervisor or designee to review ongoing expectations, goals and achievements, discuss existing and future projects, review and prepare for various accrediting.

    Manages customer care calls/messages from patients, pharmacies, other external providers/community connections/partners and patient representatives and facilitates transfer of information to appropriate clinical parties as necessary, such as Behavioral Health Clinicians, RN, MD/APRN, etc.

    Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

    Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
