Public Buildings Service Supervisory Mechanical Engineering Technician in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary As a Supervisory Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will be responsible for the administration and operation of project management, project negotiations, inspection programs, and updating of mechanical/electrical schematics and drawings for various projects. This position is located in General Services Administration (GSA), Public Buildings Service (PBS) of the National Capital Region (NCR). We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed. Responsibilities Manage and administer overall operations for planning and estimating services, project management, and interactions and communications with customers – building managers, tenants, and Service Center Officials. Ensures Facility Engineering and Custodial contractor’s adherence to contract requirements as a Contracting Officer's Representative. Responsible for the administration and operation of project management, project negotiations, inspection programs, and updating of mechanical/electrical schematics and drawings for various projects. Oversees the inspection activities of work performed under construction, minor repair and alterations, preventive maintenance (PM) services of building support equipment and custodial services through automated systems. Assign work to associates considering priorities, difficulty of assignments, and capabilities of employees. Ensures that an adequate amount of work is accomplished and that acceptable quality levels are maintained. Review, accept, reject and amend work products. Responsible for developing and coordinating training programs for personnel. Maintain strong customer relations and communications with customers both external and internal to GSA. Prepare reports regarding effectiveness of operations. Periodically reviews and updates existing operational procedures and recommends any changes to project estimation and inspection program activities. Appointment to the position will be contingent upon a negative drug test result. To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience: Supervising a diversified group of employees to effectively provide information, mentorship, training and leadership in completing work in a timely and satisfactory manner; Employing technical engineering methods, principles, and techniques to test and evaluate systems; Analyzing test data to identify material or equipment deficiencies and preparing report of findings and recommendations; Developing and administering a quality assurance program for the generating plants and steam distribution system; and Providing technical and management support to facilitate the operation of the generating plants and the distribution systems and correctly solve complex engineering repair and operational problems involving the interaction of different types of systems. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
