Requirements

The Research Specialist III is responsible for performing research and lab maintenance tasks. Primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities such as: general lab organization and upkeep, preparing solutions, media, plates and buffers, bacteria and mammalian cell cultures, DNA purification and PCR analysis, SDS-PAGE and western blotting, molecular cloning, drug studies, and genomic techniques.

  • Contribute significantly to ongoing mouse studies by performing general mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, dissections, tissue collections, injecting lab mice, and drafting/renewing mouse protocols.

  • Order lab supplies and act as lab safety officer, compiling and maintaining lab databases for research reagents, technical procedures, and mouse colonies.

  • Train on and encourage participation in performing advanced laboratory techniques, designing experiments, and running independent research projects, contributing to the training of students and/or other technicians.

Work Interactions

The role of Research Specialist III will be essential to maintaining the smooth running of the lab. The RS will be involved in upkeep of the lab and generating research materials needed for a number of federally funded research projects. The RS will take part in training new students or employees.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 1 years of prior experience

  • Strong work ethic and good organizational skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team, communicate effectively, and acquire new skills when needed

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$41,926.00 - $65,090.00

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
