The individual will serve as a Staff Engineer within the Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) Program at NASA HQ. The SCAN Network Services Division is responsible for several major development projects that implement and transition new capabilities, technologies and systems into the SCaN network infrastructure. These projects encompass major activities that can span multiple NASA field centers and even countries. In managing this broad portfolio of major projects, SCaN has a requirement for an engineer that will be able to provide technical and coordination support to enable more effective management of these projects.
Potential tasks include:
Plans, schedules and coordinates activities and processes to support key activities and meetings such as project and program reviews (attending meetings as appropriate). Coordinates meetings, takes notes, and disseminating minutes and actions. Tracking and following up on actions of responsible parties.
Interfaces across the SCaN portfolio to align engineering principles and policies.
Functions within the agile processes and practices as feasible within the nature of the work
Generates presentations, charts, graphs, correspondence, spreadsheets and other similar documents related to technical development activities. Proofreads and provides technical editing to a number of deliverables. Compile comments from multiple stakeholders into a cohesive message.
Review SCaN’s program management and systems engineering process documents and provide written inputs for future updates. The document types could include: Program/Project Management Plans (PMP), Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP), Risk Management Plan, etc.
Provide systems engineering support including reviewing, commenting and updating engineering specifications and documents. The review of systems engineering specifications could include ground or space systems requirements document, CONOPS, design documents, test specifications, test reports, etc. If needed the individual shall also:
Provide technical assessment on technology options or development activity progress
Evaluate technical options
Provide deep technical analysis and support to the technical trades and portfolio assessments
Upload documentation and materials to centralized repositories, and organize content for multiple users. Serves as interface with center project leads and NASA HQ managers Provide regular communication with major stakeholders of upcoming milestones and deliverables.
Education/Experience:
A Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in an engineering field, such as systems engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 10+ or more of relevant work experience is required.
Requirements:
Must be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Ability to multi-task and successfully meet deadlines in a timely manner.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Team player as well as able to work independently.
Must be U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a government issued Secret clearance.
Some travel may be necessary.
Preferred/Desired:
- Current or prior NASA experience is greatly beneficial, and/or familiarity/experience with satellites, ground station operations, or space communications.
