Manager of Active Student Receivables - Office of the Chief Financial Officer - Georgetown University

Job Overview

The Manager of Active Student Receivables is responsible for all the critical functions related to managing active student receivables – including but not limited to:

  • Assessing tuition and fee charges to students’ accounts, which includes assuring that over $700M annually of gross tuition and fees is credited as revenue and debited as a receivable appropriately, and in the correct amount to the accounts of more than 25,000 unique students.

  • Generating and posting student billing statements, which includes selecting the correct populations to receive statements, generating accurate statements, and managing the mass communications that are delivered to students at the time of posting billing statements to the online student account portal.

  • Assessing late payment penalties, which includes selecting the appropriate accounts to penalize, and assuring that over $800,000 in revenue is properly earned and credited to Financial Affairs.

  • Managing the process of accurately placing financial holds, preventing students from registering for additional semesters when they have failed to pay for current semesters.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting to the Director for Student Revenue and Receivables, the Manager of Active Student Receivables is a member of a four-person team that manages the full life-cycle of student revenue and receivables, along with the Manager of Sponsored Student Receivables, the Manager of Non-Credit Student Receivables, and the Manager of Inactive Student Receivables.

The Manager provides the critical support to the Customer Service and Cashiering units on the Customer Accounts team, making sure those units are properly appraised of all receivables management activities so as to allow those units to provide optimal customer service and manage payment processing more effectively.

As well, they work very closely with Deputy and Associate Registrars to plan tuition and fee assessment, as well as with Associate Directors in the three campus Financial Aid offices to coordinate billing and aid disbursement activities.

Finally, the Manager works with personnel in student affairs, auxiliary business services, and campus finance offices to ensure proper overall assessment of charges beyond tuition and fees to students’ accounts.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience in a finance, accounting, or business operation

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree

  • Experience in a higher education environment

  • Experience with the Banner student record system
