While membership remains consistent and strong, the Society continues to explore innovative ways to attract and retain members in greater numbers, including improving current offerings and expanding access to membership and affiliation with the organization.

The Membership Manager will work with the Membership Director to create and implement strategies to acquire, expand, and retain Endocrine Society Membership. This role will serve as a membership subject matter expert, with a keen understanding of the need to “meet members where they are”, align Society programs, products, and services with appropriate member segments, and articulate relevant membership value propositions. In addition, the incumbent will serve as project manager for research, development, and operationalizing of a new membership model under consideration.

Working across the organization, the incumbent will represent the viewpoint, voice, and interests of ES members and the membership department to inform marketing campaigns, events, and member experiences.

What you’ll bring to the job:

  • BA/BS degree preferred and a minimum of 5+ years of association, scientific, healthcare, or other membership/customer growth and retention experience.

  • Experience with exploring or implementing new membership or customer subscription models is extremely advantageous.

  • Proven record of growing customer and member communities through a driven focus on value creation, engagement, and messaging.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and coordinate projects with limited supervision. Strong written and oral communication skills necessary to articulate project status and actively participate in meetings and planning calls.

  • Experience understanding member and customer dataset recommendations a plus.

  • Organized, with exceptional time management skills and detail oriented.

  • Customer service oriented with diplomacy, tact, and emotional intelligence.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and successfully multi-task competing priorities.

  • Proven track record of effective teamwork, working with colleagues and members.

  • Motivation, results orientation, and ability to prioritize team efforts to use resources efficiently.

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.

  • The ability to use association management software, preferably NetForum is helpful.

What you’ll own:

Membership growth and retention

  • Develop and deploy new programs, campaigns, and initiatives to attract and convert prospective members and retain existing ones.

  • Develop membership content strategy and deliver to the marketing team for new member acquisition campaigns such as lapsed member, win-back, member get a member, events, and other membership recruitment programs.

  • Manage retention cycle, around renewal drives, auto-renewal, renewal incentives, and multi-year options.

  • Work with marketing teams to segment member and potential member markets and provide targeted and relevant messaging and encourage behaviors.

  • Liaise with the Strategy and Research teams to understand more about the needs of members and potential members and develop these findings into actions for key audience segments, value propositions, and benefits, ensuring member-facing communications are appropriate, relevant, and provide for the best customer experience.

  • Partner with the marketing team on content, timing, channels, segments, and voice, for targeted membership renewal and join campaigns.

  • Ideate strategies for YoY growth, and sustained retention.

  • Track, analyze, and report membership KPIs including joins, rejoins, growth, retention rate overall and in strategic audience segments.

  • Coordinate within the department and throughout the Society to develop membership’s presence and offers at the annual conference, ENDO.

  • Travel as requested to represent Endocrine Society at external exhibits. Promote new memberships, sharing Endocrine Society's mission.

Exploration and Management of New Membership Concepts

  • Work with the Membership Director, governance, and staff to research new membership models under consideration.

  • Collaborate with counterparts and vendors to understand the results of surveys, focus groups, and interviews and consider ways to operationalize those findings.

  • Project and manage the research, understanding, ideation, and potential deployment of the new concept.

  • Coordinate the implementation of technical requirements, standard operating procedures, and new benefit offerings.

  • Establish processes for joins, renewals, upgrades, terminations, and continuations as required by any new membership models.

  • Coordinate with marketing and communication teams to develop an appropriate product rollout and adoption plan with staff, members, and customers.

  • Work with stakeholders to develop KPIs, tracking, and reporting as the new structure is actualized.

  • Respond to feedback and key results to suggest refinements and changes to ensure KPIs continue to be met.

Membership Programs and Other Activities

  • Coordinate with Sr. Manager, Member Engagement on member experience content and priorities to ensure a throughline for member recruitment and retention.

  • Serve as primary POC for including traditional, affinity, and new benefits programs.

  • Participate as a membership liaison for designated cross-departmental collaborations.

  • Support membership and member services projects as assigned.

  • Provide support to the department and other cross-functional department needs as assigned.

  • Working across the organization, consider new membership categories and pricing models in service of the endocrinology community.

  • Travel to external events as required.

Do more than what is normally required in a situation. Seek out others involved in a situation to learn their perspectives. Take independent action to change the direction of events.

Work Location:

This position is located in Washington, DC and walking distance to Metro and major bus lines. The Endocrine Society offers a flexible, hybrid work environment. Employees are expected to work from the office at least 2 days per week to foster our collaborative culture and support cross-functional interaction.
