The Laboratory Technician, a Part-Time role, works within Department of Neuroscience in the Georgetown University Medical Center(GUMC). The major role of this person is to help the PI maintain daily functions of the WuLab. The incumbent manages mouse colonies, cultured cells, clearing glassware, and prepare electrophysiological experiments. Duties include but are not limited to:
Maintain colonies of transgenic mouse.
Maintain cultured neurons.
Clean laboratory glassware, making reagent solutions and preparing experiments.
Order laboratory supplies.
Work Interactions
The individual will report to the PI, via daily briefings, emails and other communications such as electronic lab notebooks. This individual's work can greatly contribute to the ongoing research of the laboratory by saving great deal of PI's time on daily lab work. The main research interest of WuLab is the impacts of aging and brain degeneration onto the brain activity, which align well with main mission of GUMC as well as multiple external funding agencies. The contribution of the individual will be fully recognized, including his/her co-authorship in academic publications of the laboratory. The WuLab has multiple collaborations with other research groups in GUMC, providing electrophysiology components in cell biology/biochem oriented projects. The individual will have extensive opportunities to interact with graduate students and to contribute to their thesis projects, and the individual's contribution may also be recognized by PIs of other research groups.
Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum academic levels/program required to perform the work: College, B.A. in biology or neuroscience
M.A. degree in neuroscience of biotech is preferred
Work experience in animal research laboratory with cell culture experience is highly preferred
Work Mode Designation
This position has been designated as On-Campus. A daily work of 4 hours, Monday-Friday is required. Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$17.92 - $26.80
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
