Visit www.atf.gov Responsibilities This position is located under the Office of the Director in Washington, District of Columbia. This position supports the mission of the ATF and the Office of the Director (OD). Serves as the expert authority on questions of ATF history and historical methodology for all of ATF serving within the Office of the Director. Serves as ATF's Historian concerned with the procurement, preservation, restoration, reviewal, and interpretation to the public of sites and events. Analyzes research material which may be in a variety of communication formats, and which may be voluminous, sensititive, and complex in nature. Conducts independent research and prepares authoritative oral and written information concerning ATF and its history in America. Provides presentations or lectures on ATF history and how it relates to American history and Government. Consults ATF Senior Leadership and subject matter experts to keep abreast of developments and necessary in to incorporate the most current and accurate information into work products. Bachelor's Degree (or Higher Degree) in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history; OR B. A Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Evaluation of Graduate Education Graduate study in the social sciences or humanities may also be credited when such study included training in historical research methodology; or the thesis approached the subject from an historical viewpoint and used professional historical research methodology and techniques in its preparation. To qualify for GS-14, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Specialized experience include: Experience of history and archive best practices, procedures, and methodologies; AND Using oral history techniques, equipment, and the relevant legal, ethical, and archival principles providing counsel and/or information; AND Communicate orally and in writing to advise ATF management officials and to coordinate response to inquiries, provide instructions, and prepare a wide variety of written reports and documents; AND Plan, organize, and participate in ATF team projects.
