Nationwide IT Services (NIS) is seeking a Health Communications Specialist III (HCS) to support the Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Long COVID Research and Practice in obtaining highly skilled personnel to support health communications. The candidate will support the efforts of the Director, Office of Long COVID Research and Practice.

The Office of Long COVID Research and Practice is in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health within HHS. The Office was established in August 2023 to coordinate the whole-of-government response to the longer-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Office works across the federal government and with external partners to respond to the most pressing needs of people living with Long COVID.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drafting and ghostwriting – prepare talking points, slides, emails, abstracts, social media posts, press releases, blog posts, rollout plans, web content, and other communications materials as needed by HHS branding guidelines and overarching messaging.

  • Thought partnership – participate in brainstorming, planning, or strategizing to assist in effective communications about Long COVID to various audiences.

  • Coordinating – align activities and personnel across partner agencies to ensure execution of convenings, work groups, assigned tasks, and deliverables.

  • Information Management and Systems Improvement – ensure shared files are arranged most up to date, develop processes to optimize information flow across Long COVID work streams.

  • Liaison – with other leadership and points of contact such as OASH Communications to ensure optimal information flow.

  • Support communication to external stakeholders (e.g., community, providers), and federal partners, involving content experts, and website postings.

    Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required.

  • Ability to obtain and retain a Public Trust clearance.

  • Ability to work well with a team in a high visibility, fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Microsoft Suite
