Job Description

DMS is seeking a Graphic Artist to join our team. The Graphic Artist develops and edits digital imagery for incorporation into reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of complex technical systems concerned primarily with Naval Aviation Manuals and Technical Products. The Graphic Artist develops, captures, and manipulates source image data and video from a variety of engineering Computer Aided Design software packages (i.e., AutoCAD, Creo, SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.), photographs, videos or other source formats.

A successful candidate will be responsible for performing graphical drafting and editing of technical data for conversion from Portable Document Format (PDF) and other source formats to applicable vector graphics formats (.cgm, .ai,) and ultimately to Extensible Markup Language (XML; .svg) and Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) compliant with the S1000D International Specification for Technical Publications. Candidate will produce graphics and modify existing graphics to support new or updated/modified Naval Aviation Manuals and Technical Products. The Graphics Designer will apply customer-specific business rules using proven conversion and data management technology and processes. The Graphics Designer will edit technical data in pertinent vector graphic formats for XML integration ensuring data integrity and quality using specified toolsets and processes. The Graphics Designer will be responsible for the Quality Assurance (QA) of drafted/edited graphical and technical data before delivery to the customer.

Responsibilities

  • Work with established graphics editing tools including AutoCAD, Solid Works, Larsen, and Adobe Illustrator to facilitate the design, and development of a wide variety of electronic technical materials (technical manuals, schematics, illustrated parts diagrams, etc.). Products may include slides, flowcharts, schematics, parts illustrations, block diagrams and other technical documentation and related publications.

  • Develop a system for scheduling and tracking requests for graphics to ensure timely and efficient completion of all work products. Ensure technical graphics are accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications and adheres to standards for quality, format, and style.

  • Review, analyze, edit, rewrite and/or improve the quality of scientific/technical documents prepared by others in accordance with set standards.

  • Possess a working knowledge and experience with technical writing and XML authoring tools.

  • Must have excellent communication skills and able to work in fast paced and agile environment with tight deadlines.

  • • Able to collaborate with industry partners and work with technical experts/subject matter experts to create and/or edit graphics.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency with SCORM compliance

  • Experience integrating with Learning Management Systems (LMS)

  • Design portfolio

  • Ability to quickly research and learn new technologies as needed

  • Ability to analyze functional requirements and attention to detail necessary to arrive at technically sound design decisions

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with other designers, engineers, testers and subject-matter experts

  • Ability to proficiently document work completed, issues or other items necessary for the team's awareness

  • High level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites

  • Experience with digital video and audio editing.

  • Utilization of design tools including but not limited to: Adobe Creative Suite, Premier Pro, Adobe Audition, Camtasia, Articulate 360, HTML & CSS. (Captivate, InDesign are a plus.)
