JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The General Laborer- Bridge is responsible for providing wide ranging labor support services to the foremen, supervisors or other designated persons to perform various hands-on duties including, but not limited to: handling construction materials, shoveling, raking, flagging, housekeeping, and site maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Unloads tools, setup equipment and prepare work area,
  • Assists in job site traffic control setup and take down in accordance with specifications to ensure a safe work zone,
  • Assist with the setup, operation and maintenance of message/arrow boards,
  • Repairs guardrails, makes forms, pours concrete, and cleans and paints highway structures,
  • Patches and replaces concrete, bituminous, and wood floors on bridges,
  • Installs and replaces corroded structural steel on highway structure,
  • Follow project instructions from construction foreman and/or supervisor,
  • Assembling and disassembling all temporary structures and forms,
  • Digging trenches, removing filling, and/or compacting earth with use of shovels and rakes,
  • Loading and unloading materials and supplies,
  • Performs stone and concrete work, rigging, rip-rapping, excavating, filling, and sodding,

``` - Must wear proper attire at all times including: safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image,

``` - May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends, - Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • 0 (zero) to 1 (one) year of construction experience or similar,
  • Must be 18 years of age or older,
  • Possess a positive attitude and work ethic,
  • High School diploma, GED is desired,
  • Ability to follow direction of the supervisor and other crewmembers,
  • Required to adhere to all safety rules and regulations,
  • Flagger certification desired,
  • COVID-19, vaccination is highly recommended,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions:

  • This jobmay require you to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.

In addition, you must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job. This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces. - This job requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time. - This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts). - This job requires the ability to perform essential job tasks in less than favorable job conditions. These may include, but are not limited to: Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time. - Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
