One Common Unity Director of Out-of-School-Time and Enrichment in Washington, District Of Columbia

The Director of Out-of-School Time and Enrichment oversees programs designed for students during both school and non-school hours. These programmatic activities could include after-school events and programs, summer programs, weekend activities, as well as lunch-time groups and coordinating structured activities throughout the school day. This role encompasses creating, developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating programs to ensure they provide safe, educational, and engaging activities for participants. About You: The Director of Out-of-School Time Programs and Enrichment oversees and implements programs designed for students in the school environment during school and non-school hours. In this role you would be at a Director level in the organization, engaging with our community partners to enhance the creative programming that we have established that include, but are not limited to, after-school programs, summer activities, and weekend experiences. This position requires a self-motivated and creative visionary with supervisory experience to guide and manage their team to provide exciting, safe, and art-focused experiences for youth that could enhance their growth and development. Qualifications: ● Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). ● Several years of experience in out-of-school time programming or similar educational programming. ● Strong leadership and management skills. ● A minimum of three years of supervisory experience (preferred, not required). ● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. ● Ability to design and implement engaging and educational activities for students. ● Knowledge of current trends and best practices in out-of-school time programming. ● Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically. ● Experience with budget management. • CPR and First Aid (WFA); Mandated Reporter training, DCPS clearance, FBI background check, and NSO registry clearance required before the first day of work. • OCU follows DC Government and DC Public School guidelines on vaccination and requires healthcare workers to provide proof of vaccination or a qualified exemption. Key Responsibilities: • Program Development and Management: Develop and implement engaging out-of-school time and enrichment programs that meet the needs and interests of participants. Manage all aspects of the programs, including staffing, scheduling, reporting, budgeting, and procurement of materials. Program facilitation will be provided as needed. • Staff Supervision and Training: Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate program staff. Provide ongoing professional development opportunities to ensure staff are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively carry out their roles. • Partnership and Community Relations: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including school administrators, community organizations, caregivers, and students. Coordinate with these stakeholders to ensure programs complement and enhance the regular school curriculum. • Program Evaluation: Establish and monitor key performance metrics to evaluate program effectiveness. Use this data to make evidence-based decisions about program modifications and improvements. • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all programs and activities comply with relevant regulations and safety standards. Create a safe and inclusive environment that fosters learning and development for all participants. • Caregiver Engagement: Regularly communicate with parents and caregivers about program activities and student progress. Involve caregivers in program planning and decision-making where appropriate. • Organization Collaboration: Meet with other department directors and managers for cross-collaboration opportunities within the organization. Attend program leadership team meetings on a routine basis to discuss areas of improvement and successes across different programs within OCU. This is a general outline and may vary based on the specific needs and resources of the organization, as well as the age and needs of the students served by the programs. This position reports to the Senior Director of Programs.
