Summary The Director, Bureau of Transportation Statistics position is in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (OST-R). The OST-R mission is to advance innovation, technology transfer, and breakthrough knowledge; facilitate research and multimodal research collaboration; provide decision makers with useful statistics and information of the highest quality and integrity; and develop a skilled interdisciplinary transportation workforce for the Nation. Responsibilities The Director, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) serves as the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Statistical Official responsible for directing and coordinating statistical policy for the Department, overseeing the development of data quality standards and confidentiality standards to safeguard sensitive information, and advising on the validity of statistical technical and conclusions. The BTS Director serves as the senior advisor to the DOT Secretary and directs BTS programs to enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting. The BTS Director: Provides data, statistics, and analyses to transportation decision makers that enable the Department as well as other federal, state, local and private sector stakeholders to base their decisions on sound science and rigorous analysis. Serves as DOT’s Statistical Official and advocates for DOT interests in meetings with federal statistical agencies and managers of statistical programs in other federal agencies. Leads the collection, compilation, analysis, and publishing of a comprehensive set of transportation statistics on the performance and impacts of the national transportation system. Provides guidance transportation monitoring and coordinates the collection of information with the Operating Administrations of the Department and other Federal agencies. Qualifications As a basic requirement for entry into the Senior Executive Service (SES), you must clearly articulate and describe within your five (5) page resume evidence of progressively responsible supervisory, managerial, or professional experience which involved management of a program or organization of significant scope and complexity. Your resume must provide information regarding your professional experience and accomplishments that demonstrate your ability to perform the duties of this position and meet the mandatory Technical Qualification(s) and Managerial Executive Core Qualifications listed below. TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (TQs): Below are the descriptions of the mandatory technical qualifications for this position. Your five (5) page resume must provide information regarding your professional experience and accomplishments that demonstrate you meet these technical qualifications. TQ1: Demonstrated executive level experience providing leadership in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a statistical data collection program to assess the performance of the national transportation system. TQ2: Demonstrated executive level experience collaborating with partners and stakeholders to assess statistical data and evidence to inform policy, program, and regulatory decisions impacting the transportation community. EXECUTIVE CORE QUALIFICATIONS (ECQs): Below are descriptions of the mandatory ECQs that are required for all SES positions.
