National Children's Center Direct Support Professional in Washington, District Of Columbia

National Children’s Center, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that is one of the region’s largest non-governmental providers of services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

JOB SUMMARY

The Direct Support Professional provides developmentally and physically disabled adults with individualized services and supports needed to live independently within the community. You will be responsible for the safety, welfare, training and supervision of all individuals residing in your assigned location. You are a member of the treatment planning team, providing and supporting a structured, consistent and therapeutic environment. Depending on the needs of each resident, you will support activities of daily living, including teaching meal planning, household chores, money management, functional academics, public transportation and more. In addition, you are responsible for intervening and resolving crisis situations and providing emergency CPR and First Aid if required.

Various shifts are available - day, evening, and nights including weekends. Full time positions start at 30 hours per week.

LOCATON

Opportunities are available at community-based homes across Washington, DC and Montgomery County. Our day program is located in Silver Spring, MD.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • HS Diploma or GED

  • One (1) year experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities as a service provider or family member

  • Valid drivers license and two (2) years of driving experience

  • CPR & First Aid preferred

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide supervision and protective oversight of assigned individuals throughout scheduled shift to ensure their safety and well-being

  • Maintain ongoing knowledge and understanding of established levels of protective oversight and supervision requirements under the individual's plan of care

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of daily activities to meet person-centered choices, and identified habilitation and educational needs

  • Perform other duties as assigned
