Description:

As a member of the Global Marketing Department, within the Publications Division, the Communications Specialist will help drive communication projects to foster enduring community growth and engagement, as well as drive readership, authorship, and revenue. This individual will report to the Senior Communications Manager and provide broad assistance with content development and strategic implementation while managing the day-to-day operations of the division’s organic and paid social media presence.

Due to client requirement, applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis. For our w2 consultants, we offer a great benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, 401k with company matching, and life insurance.

Rate: $25 - $30 / hr. w2

Responsibilities:

Position Accountabilities

• Contribute to communications projects through planning, composition, coordination with teams, and content delivery

• Develop messaging and materials that may include announcements, blog posts, social media content, talking points, and other pieces of content as needed

• Manage and monitor brand-level social media presence across platforms to schedule content and engage with our community

• Field and implement requests for organic social posts and paid social advertising

• Provide support and guidance for other staff who manage social accounts for journals and other sub-brands of the publication

• Assist the Senior Communications Manager with other duties as required

Experience Requirements:

Requirements and Preferences 

• Five years of experience in communications or a related function at a prominent organization

• Positive attitude that contributes to the team culture in accordance with our Core Values: Ambition, Integrity, Teamwork in Teams of Teams, and Clear and Effective Communication

• Confident and self-motivated professional who proactively identifies problems and solutions

• Clear thinker with an organized and detail-oriented approach

• Excellent writer and communicator

• Significant experience managing social media for a similarly high-profile organization and familiarity with management platforms like Brandwatch or Buffer

• Experience with basic design through tools like Canva

• Familiarity with paid digital and social advertising on Meta and/or LinkedIn

• Preference for familiarity and experience with researchers and the scientific community

Education Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree, with a preference for fields related to communications or science

Skills, experience, and other compensable factors will be considered when determining pay rate. The pay range provided in this posting reflects a W2 hourly rate; other employment options may be available that may result in pay outside of the provided range.
