Summary The Smithsonian Institution (SI) is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Contracting and Personal Property Management (OCon&PPM). The Office of Contracting and Personal Property Management is responsible for the overall planning, management, simplified purchasing, personal property, travel, and policy programs. Responsibilities The Attorney-Advisor (Contract) is responsible for managing and overseeing the preparation and execution of contracts for Smithsonian’s real estate portfolio. In this position, you will: Supervise, manage and oversee the preparation and execution of contracts for the Smithsonian’s Architect Engineering and Construction Division. Provide professional advice and consultation to top-level management officials regarding matters related to procurement and contracting. Plan, organize, direct, and supervise the personnel and activities of the Architect/Engineering and Construction Contracting Division. Qualifications GS-14 Experience: You qualify for this position if you have four years of specialized legal experience (professional) equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as providing guidance and oversight on the contracting of architectural and/or engineering services, for the construction, restoration and renovation of historic buildings. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week. Education Applicants must (1) possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.), LL.B or equivalent degree from a law school accredited by the American Association of Law Schools, and (2) be a member in good standing of the Bar of the State or the District of Columbia. You MUST submit a copy of your unofficial transcripts or equivalent. An official transcript will be required if you are selected. Additional Information This position is not included in the bargaining unit.
