Requirements

The Center for Contemporary Arab Studies (http://ccas.georgetown.edu/) (CCAS) is the only academic center in the United States focusing exclusively on the Arab world. Since its founding in 1975, CCAS has prepared new generations of diplomats, scholars, teachers, policymakers, and leaders in the business and nonprofit sectors capable of critical thought, constructive dialogue, and creative engagement with the Arab world. CCAS advances research in the field of Arab Studies not only through its academic programs, public events, education outreach, and multimedia projects, but also by regularly hosting prominent scholars, visiting researchers, and post-doctoral fellows at the Center.

The Associate Director is responsible for overall operations of the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies including budget management, program administration, and staff supervision. The Associate Director also supports the Director in stakeholder engagement. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

Budget and Grants Management

  • Oversee and manage CCAS finances, working closely with the SFS Finance office and serving as Departmental Administrator, Department Financial Manager for Sponsored Projects, and Financial Reporter in GMS.

  • Manage the quarterly budget reconciliation (BAR) process for all funds, providing budget forecasting and reports.

  • Provide Title VI report budgets and reconciliation, working with GU Finance and Joint Office of Research Administration (JORA).

  • Oversee fulfillment of post-award, Title VI and grant activities, obligations, and budget compliance, liaising with office of Federal Relations and facilitating for Title VI Policy Council meetings.

  • Oversee grant applications, working with faculty and staff to create compelling and cohesive applications, providing budgets, and liaising between CCAS, granting organizations and JORA.

  • Research new potential sources of funding, assisting faculty as needed with grant management (budgets, compliance, reports).

  • Track donations and gifts to CCAS, supervising the Operations and Program Manager in the execution of all financial transactions.

Program Administration

  • Train and supervise five administrative staff positions, working with staff and DGS to ensure that priorities and goals of the Center and Academic programs are met.

  • Work closely with CCAS Director, faculty, and staff on identifying and implementing CCAS strategic priorities, both short and long-term.

  • Work with the SFS HR team to ensure that CCAS recruiting, hiring, training, termination, and payment practices are carried out in accordance with HR policies and procedures (http://data.georgetown.edu/hr/employment_services/policies.html) .

  • Prepare supporting documentation for all CCAS academic appointments for adjuncts, visiting, and regular faculty, working with the SFS Director of Faculty Affairs.

  • Working with other CCAS Staff, supervise the onboarding of visiting scholars, visiting researchers, Post-Doctoral Fellows and other Center-associated visitors.

  • Oversee maintenance of CCAS offices, program space, and equipment, coordinating with the SFS Dean’s Office regarding capital needs/projects.

Work Interactions

The Associate Director reports to the Center Director and supervises five staff positions.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, business, Arab studies, or related field; Master’s preferred

  • 5 years of closely related program administration experience in higher education or closely related field, including budget management and staff supervision, and program development

  • Grants and development experience highly desirable

  • Knowledge of the Arab world and languages preferred

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
