The Assistant Director, Office of Public Interest and Community Service will help law students seeking summer, academic term, and postgraduate opportunities in the non-profit and government sectors explore their interests and strategize about career options. Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • Counsel individual students, including those from groups historically underrepresented in the legal profession.

  • Provide feedback on resumes and cover letters, as well as guidance on networking and interview strategies.

  • Design and implement programs and communications (emails, listservs) to educate students on career options and skills.

  • Participate in recruitment programs, employer outreach, and alumni networking events.

  • Collaborate with relevant Georgetown offices, student groups, and outside organizations.

  • Cultivate relationships with employers and alumni.

  • Assist with additional OPICS programs that support Georgetown Law students and graduates.

Work InteractionsThis position reports to the Director of the 1L Team, OPICS, which oversees all programming and counseling of first-year students. The position interacts on a daily basis with other OPICS 1L section advisers, the upper class counseling team, and recruitment staff. Given the close connection between students’ career and academic choices, this position also regularly interacts with OCS career advisers, the Experiential Learning office, ODOS, Office of Academic Affairs, Financial Aid and the Registrar’s office.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor

  • A minimum of 5 years practice in public interest and/or government law setting, before or after law school

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and listen to people from a wide variety of backgrounds

  • Experience counseling, coaching, or advising individuals, including peers or mentees, in navigating career decisions

  • A demonstrated commitment to equity and cultural sensitivity

  • Comfort navigating, or willingness to learn how to use, programs like MailChimp, LinkedIn, and GSuite

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
