Noblis A/G System Engineer in Washington, District Of Columbia

Responsibilities

The FAA's NextGen Data Comm program allows the National Airspace System (NAS) to handle more traffic, reduce flight delays, route aircraft more efficiently and improve safety, all while reducing operational costs for airspace users. The system is currently in the En Route deployment phase after successfully completing the tower phase.

Critical to the successful En Route deployment, is the continued analysis and resolution of end-end system technical issues that involve the controllers, automation, networks, aircraft avionics, and pilots. This is a classic system-of-systems challenge where we apply both technical and operational knowledge and experience from both the ground and airborne perspectives with stakeholder engagement to achieve a successful system deployment. The Senior Systems Engineer will work within a cross-functional team environment to address deployment challenges.

Performs System Engineering work in support of the FAA air/ground Data Communications Program. Specific duties include the following:

  • Apply enterprise system engineering principles to the analyses of cross-cutting issues, testing, integration, deployment, and operations for the FAA Data Communications Program.

  • Interface with the FAA customer, FAA support organizations, vendor, and industry to develop comprehensive solutions for technical and operational issues related to FANS-1/A and VDL-2 network performance.

  • Integrate data into solutions that support successful pilot and controller operational acceptance of the system. This would include integrating airborne perspectives with controller perspectives to develop successful strategies.

  • Project management and technical requirements development for emerging customer communications projects.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree and at least 25 years of experience. Degree in a technical discipline preferred. In addition, the candidate must possess:

  • Demonstrated systems engineering and leadership skills on large scale aviation projects with an emphasis on communications engineering.

  • An in-depth understanding of air/ground VHF communications, ACARS, and FANS 1/A.

  • Familiarity with VHF communication service providers (ARINC and/or SITA).

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated initiative to perform as part of a project team.

  • Knowledge of FAA domain and NextGen and ATC communications technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to act as technical liaison to customer organization, vendors, and industry resolve the most critical technical and operational requirements are being met.

Desired Qualifications

  • Current working knowledge-of and hands-on experience with the FAA Data Communications Program.

  • Working knowledge of the air transport industry environment specifically related to Data Communications implementation and operation.

Salary at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and are based on full time status. Part time staff receive a prorated salary based on regularly scheduled hours. The estimated minimum and maximum displayed represents the broadest range for this position (inclusive of high geographic and high clearance requirements), and is just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package for employees.

Posted Salary Range

USD $145,100.00 - USD $226,700.00 /Yr.
