As a member of US Value and Access (USV&A) team, The Senior Manager, Contract Development – Payer Contract Writer is integral to Amgen’s commercial contracting success. This Senior Manager will report to the Director, Contract Development and will be responsible for Payer customer contracts across the portfolio of Amgen Products for assigned payer accounts, including one of the three largest national accounts.

In this vital role you will work hand-in-hand with the Payer Contract Relations team to write and develop Payer discount and rebate agreements for one large national and several other strategic accounts. This role will also manage contract metadata and reporting in our contract lifecycle management database as well as be involved in the contract process from request to completion to lifecycle management.

  • Drafting and editing agreements, amendments, notice letters and other contract documents

  • Crafting document language that accurately describes new programs, rebates, and discount structures in the completed contract document

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Legal, Government Programs, Market Access, Coverage & Pricing, and the Contract Execution team to ensure accurate, executable contracts and seamless implementation of completed contracts into our financial system of record

  • Support the newly launched Contract Lifecycle Management system that will improve the contracting process

  • Provide insights and recommendations to streamline workload to manage and meet deadlines

  • Project managing planned and ad-hoc special projects within Contract Development and U.S. Value & Access

  • Supervise and mentor one or more payer contract writers

  • Manage account workload in conjunction with the other Senior Manager Contract Writers to ensure contracts are developed, written, and completed for these accounts

  • Develop Contract Development writing staff and lead all aspects of the quality of contracts in their organization

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of contract development or contract writing experience

Or

Master’s degree and 4 years of contract development or contract writing experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of contract development or contract writing experience

Or

Associate’s degree and 8 years of contract development or contract writing experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 10 years of contract development or contract writing experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Legal document drafting experience in a dynamic environment, e.g., consulting firms, biotech, tech companies, etc.

  • Completes projects and makes decisions with minimal direction and strong ability to develop prioritization and completion timeframes for multiple assignments

  • High attention to detail/reporting accuracy

  • Ability to prioritize opposing interests and projects and handle a high volume of contract document requests

  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers

  • Ability to be forward-thinking, take initiative, problem-solve, work independently and exercise appropriate business judgment

  • Interaction and strong interpersonal skills with cross-functional teams is essential

  • Experience integrating complex business strategies into a contract

  • Deep understanding of the US commercial and government healthcare and reimbursement environment

  • Ability to manage in a highly fluid, interactive, matrixed environment

  • Strong oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills at all organizational levels

  • Demonstrated track record of growing responsibility and leadership experience

  • Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology experience

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
