Netflix Engineering Manager, Operate Tools in Warsaw, Poland

The Role

Productivity Engineering is the organization tasked with making Netflix engineers more effective by building the infrastructure to create, build, test, deploy, and operate the Netflix stack. As Netflix grows, so does the complexity behind our engineering systems. Our challenge is deceivingly simple: keep the developer experience amazing as our product experience expands to include streaming, ads, games, and live events. Our work impacts virtually every engineer at Netflix and enables other platform teams to innovate faster.

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Operate Tools team. This is a brand new team that will be based in Warsaw to design and implement software tools and infrastructure to support the operational best practices for thousands of services that power the Netflix experience. To do this, you will need to partner with engineering teams across Netflix as well as work closely with X-functional partners across geographies and timezones. This is a role with a big challenge and an opportunity for large impact. What you build will touch virtually every part of the Netflix software ecosystem!

This role is based in Warsaw and our teams work in a hybrid-working model.

What You Will Do:

  • Team Leadership: Hold a high bar in hiring and retention. Inspire the team toward timely execution and delivery. Foster a strong accountability culture. Ensure high and consistent velocity of output even in the face of ambiguity.

  • Technical Vision: Smartly invest in the system architecture to meet the fast-changing needs of our business. Balance business needs with strong engineering fundamentals to ensure investment in the long term health of Netflix infrastructure.

  • Product Vision: Act as the team’s technical advisor. Invests in understanding how Netflix engineering will evolve in the future and develop an iterative roadmap with product leaders to meet those needs.

  • Domain Expertise and Customer Empathy: Develop a productivity engineering culture that cares deeply about making fellow engineers more effective.

  • Customer Partnerships: Collaborating with customers and partners, keeping our customers up to date, driving alignment

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in building and managing high-performing teams

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and architecture

  • Deep empathy and connection for other engineering teams and their business goals

  • Proven experience building and leading exceptional software engineering teams, that work with stakeholders and engineers across geographies and timezones

  • Tenacity and the ability to balance competing priorities across multiple cross-functional stakeholders and programs

  • Passion and curiosity to learn and contribute towards the software reliability strategy and goals across Netflix.

  • Deep empathy and connection for stakeholders and their business goals

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
