We are recruiting for a Head of Technical Engineering join the team.

Scope of the Role

The Head of Engineering will lead Amentum International’s corporate engineering function, providing strategic direction, governance and assurance on engineering processes, safety, compliance and risk management. This role is pivotal in driving technical and professional development of the engineering team, ensuring alignment with the company’s growth and excellent standards.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy:

Lead Amentum’s Corporate Engineering Function, setting a clear vision and strategy for engineering excellence. Act as the Head of Profession for Engineering, facilitating goal setting and professional development across the team.

Create and maintain a dynamic technical, engineering and engineering assurance team delivering the assigned programme and projects. Responsible for the long term strategy for growing our technical capability in line with the business’s growth strategy.

Engineering Governance and Assurance:

Provide governance and assurance to the Technical Compliance Director/VP and Executive Team regarding engineering processes including safety and compliance engineering, engineering projects, engineering related risk management and functional good practice of engineering processes.

Ensure all engineering projects adhere to best practices and meet regulatory standards.

Lead corporate engineering auditing and assurance processes.

Engineering KPI Oversight:

Develop, implement and manage a robust engineering KPI framework. Ensure KPI’s are aligned with Ametum’s strategic goals and objectives, providing a clear measure of success and areas for improvement.

Functional Leadership:

Offer functional leadership across all engineering disciplines. Support project engineering teams with technical guidance and support, ensuring the successful delivery of engineering projects.

Risk and Change Control Management:

Oversee the identification, assessment and mitigation of risks across engineering programs and projects.

Lead the oversight of the change control process within the engineering function. Implement mechanisms to assss the impact of engineering changes on project timelines, cost and quality, ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining stakeholder alignment

Bid and Proposal, Strategic Bid reviews and Technical Solutions Development:

Provide expertise in the creation of technical solutions that meet or exceed the requirements of potential projects. Support the development and submission of bids and proposals.

Participate in strategic bid review sessions, providing critical insights and recommendations to enhance the competitiveness of Amentum’s proposals. Lead the Technical review process within the engineering. Collaborate closely with the Business Development and Commercial teams to ensure all technical proposals are robust, competitive, and align with customer requirements.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

Stay abreast of industry trends, legislative changes and technological advancements. Implement innovative solutions and improvements to maintain Amentum’s competitive edge.

Incident Investigation:

Oversee the investigation of engineering incidents, with a particular focus on high risk items, driving visibility and accountability across the engineering function. Oversee root cause analysis, ensuring its analysis drive strategic problem solving and implementation of right solutions.

Knowledge Management:

Establish and oversee Amentum International knowledge management strategy within the engineering function, collaborating with other Amentum’s divisions, aiming to capture, document and disseminate valuable knowledge across the organisation. Including lessons learned, best practices, technical solutions and innovation insights.

Digital Knowledge and Technical Platforms:

Lead the implementation and optimisation of digital knowledge management platforms to store and share engineering documents, designs, project reports and other technical knowledge assets. Ensuring best value and accessible to all stakeholders.

Functional Leadership / Operational Excellence

Provide functional leadership of engineering processes across all engineering disciplines.

Provide functional leadership of UK engineering systems, e.g. CMMS.

Provide and maintain visibility of UK resourcing and competencies across the UK engineering functions.

Hold regular calls to allow knowledge exchange between the engineering teams.

Amentum Way Governance

Oversee and lead the technical appraisal of the International Programmes and Projects, including the audit and review process, through the Amentum Way Gate Process.

Provide functional engineering support and when required leadership on engineering projects.

Skills and Qualifications

Collaborative Leadership:

Proven leadership skills with a strong emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a high-pressure environment.

Communication, Persuasion and Buy In: Exceptional communications skills, with the ability to articulate technical and engineering solutions, their benefits and buy in from stakeholders.

Strategic thinking and Business acumen: Demonstrated ability to think strategically and apply business acumen.

Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Ideally hold a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, related degree or demonstrated equivalent and extensive experience in area of specialisation with a proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role, and previous experience advising at board / exec level welcomed.

Due to the nature of the role and our clients, it is important that all applications have resided in the UK for at least 5 years.

We need all the candidates to have BPSS clearance as a minimum, with a security clearance (SC) or have no issue in obtaining SC. A prerequisite for SC is that the applicant has lived in the UK for at least 5 years.
