GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This position is responsible for providing crisis intervention, empowerment and advocacy to victims of domestic violence in shelter and on the crisis line. This position will provide shelter coverage and some clerical duties.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide direct service/advocacy/peer support to victims of domestic violence.

  2. Answer crisis hotline and provide referrals and crisis intervention as needed.

  3. Assist residents in discussing, planning and executing Shelter Manager's case plan. 

  4. Keep Shelter Manager apprised of all issues, concerns, and behaviors that affect the resident's case plan, as well as their safety and well being.

  5. Assist in assuring fire and safety regulations are enforced.

  6. Implement the rule of no physical discipline of children in shelter. This includes being supportive of mothers who are trying to learn non-physical discipline techniques.

  7. Create and maintain an atmosphere of support and assistance for all residents and staff. Make daily contact with all residents to assure their needs are being met.

  8. Assist residents with chores as needed to provide life skills training and mentoring.

  9. Provide child care with mother's permission when necessary on a limited basis for jobs, medical, counseling, and legal appoints, as well as landlord interviews with permission from SM.

  10. Assist house manager with donations, shelter maintenance and cleaning.

  11. Maintain shelter facility in an orderly manner.

  12. Maintain appropriate case records and reports.

  13. Comply with bed bug protocol at staff exit and with clothing donations.

  14. Complete all duties in a manner consistent with the program philosophy of Someplace Safe, Inc.

  15. Attends staff meetings, participates in in-service training, related professional training as guided by supervisor.

  16. Staff person to follow "Chain of Command" for Agency.

  17. Other duties may develop in the course of events. The Director/Shelter Manager has the authority to assign tasks not presently covered or delete tasks presently covered in this description.

  18. Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

  19. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to work with people with diverse backgrounds and positions. 

  2. Ability to work in a stressful/crisis oriented environment. 

  3. Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence. Excellent communication and crisis intervention skills. 

  4. Ability to articulate the program philosophy of Someplace Safe.

  5. Knowledge of the importance of empowerment and display caring, compassionate attitude.

  6. Valid Ohio Driver's License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.

  7. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation). 

     

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelors Degree/Associate Degree in social work, counseling or related field or related experience working with victims.
