Full-Time, Someplace Safe

$16/hour

  

SCHEDULE: Full Time. Primarily day shift; flexibility required includes "On-Call" responsibilities

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  The major focus of this position is legal advocacy and emergency intervention for victims of domestic violence in crisis.  This includes assisting victims with civil protection orders, accompanying victims to court, and explaining the judicial process.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide direct service, advocacy and support for victims of domestic violence. 

  2. Assist victims with completing the paperwork for Civil Protection Orders.

  3. Act as a liaison with the criminal/civil justice system. Accompany victims to court, police departments and other agencies as needed.

  4. Assist victims with exploring various options, goal setting and safety planning for themselves and their minor children. 

  5. Provide referrals to other community agencies as needed.

  6. Answers crisis line and accurately record calls.

  7. Keep accurate client records. Maintain files in a secure location with appropriate information and enter info into the Intake Management program in a timely manner.

  8. Assist with tracking and keeping accurate data on criminal /civil cases and their dispositions.

  9. Attend monthly staff meetings and trainings including in-service training and any related professional activities, as guided by the Legal Advocate Supervisor or Director.

  10. Train and keep staff apprised on CPO's and changes affecting procedures.

  11. Respond to voice and email messages in a timely manner.

  12. Create and maintain an atmosphere of support and assistance for all clients and staff.

  13. Report critical problems immediately to the Director/ Legal Advocate Supervisor.

  14. Comply with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

  15. Other duties may develop in the course of events. The Director and/or Legal Advocate Supervisor has the authority to assign tasks not currently covered in this description

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to work with a diverse population.

  3. Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence as it affects families and society.

  4. Knowledge of the importance of empowerment.

  5. Excellent communication and crisis intervention skills.

  6. Must exhibit a caring, compassionate attitude.

  7. Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills.

  8. Ability to articulate the program philosophy of Someplace Safe.

  9. Knowledge of the civil/criminal court system.

  10. Must have transportation and be willing to travel throughout the county to various courts as 

needed.

  1. Valid Ohio Driver's License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.

  2. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of 

Criminal Identification & Investigation).

 

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Human Services or Criminal Justice preferred. 

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience in the field of domestic violence and/or crisis intervention helpful. Must have an Ohio Notary license or be willing/able to obtain same.
