Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a part-time TRIO Career & Academic Transfer Coach (Advisor) position at the Walla Walla campus. This positon will work approximately 20 hours a week in a 50% exempt position.

General Description:

The Career and Academic Transfer Coach (CATC) works with a cohesive, creative staff in implementing programming as outlined by the grant and developing relationships with program participants with the goal of increasing the college retention and graduation rates of its participants. The CATC builds positive, working relationships with traditionally underserved students who face multiple challenges in achieving academic success. The CATC assists with providing required and recommended grant programming designed to promote student retention, completion and transfer to bachelor's degree programs. The CATC works in conjunction with the Student Services Department on the Walla Walla and Clarkston campuses.

Essential Functions:

Provide intensive, comprehensive educational advising, including assistance in developing a detailed educational plan and direction in course selection for TRIO participants; Provide academic early warning intervention strategies.

Utilize interpersonal skills toward the development of positive, trusting, influential relationships with students.

Monitor financial aid and student academic and personal needs on an ongoing basis.

Coordinate and facilitate participant transfer to four-year institutions through transfer planning, campus visits and maintaining contacts with advisors at other colleges and universities.

Research and track student progress via student database management systems; implement retention strategies; analyze records and report all retention and follow-up date on program participants.

Assist with the recruitment, screening, and selection of eligible participants, obtaining appropriate documentation.

Assist with the organization and instruction of workshops, presentations, and TRIO courses, both face-to-face and online. Topics include, but are not limited to, study skills, college and career planning, financial aid processes, financial literacy, scholarship search, test preparation and building social capital/sense of belonging.

Provide access to and instruction on technological resources.

Establish and facilitate a cooperative team-building relationship with campus personnel, community agencies, industry partners and community, providing education about the TRIO grant program and its objectives.

Serve as a liaison and advocate for students in their relationship with instructors, administrators, and community partners.

Coordinate with instructional support services to meet academic needs of program participants.

Attend professional meetings, conferences and workshops as approved by the supervisor.

Participate in team, college, and community meetings as requested and department and college activities, including committees as appropriate.
