Cass County Deputy Auditor-Treasurer II (Property Tax/Deeds) in Walker, Minnesota

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To support property tax functions including tax calculation, tax revenue settlement, and land taxation records maintenance; assist with processing deeds, tax searches, and certifications; provide front-line customer service to the public in person and over the phone. WORK PERFORMED/JOB FUNCTIONS: Tax calculation: Assists with annual computation of local tax rates including the compilation of all required levy and valuation data. Assist with auditing and verifying the accuracy and integrity of tax calculations prior to final calculation for the printing of tax statements. Assists with a similar tax calculation process annually for mailing notices of proposed taxes. Assists with updating all special assessment records, by processing changes, cancellations, and new assessments. Tax revenue settlement: Assists with computing current, delinquent, state general tax, forfeited tax settlements, and tax abatements. Assists with annual required reporting to state agencies and local government units involving property tax. Land taxation records maintenance: Assists with the maintenance of the tax parcel database of approximately 42,000 records encompassing real and personal property, mobile homes, severed minerals, and tax forfeited land, maintains all tax parcel records for ownership transfers, subdivisions and combinations, contract cancellations, verification by cross-reference of revised legal descriptions, and resulting coding changes to ensure accurate parcel taxation. Assists with parcel maintenance for inclusion in tax increment financing (TIF) districts and assists with TIF district administration and other tax abatement programs. Other duties: Assists with the processing of deeds and other legal documents in preparation for the recording process and update of tax and land records. Verifies and interprets legal descriptions on deeds, assists with title searches, checks the status of delinquent taxes and current year taxes, and assists the public with questions relating to tax parcel land ownership records. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Requires a thorough knowledge of property taxation statutes, policies, and procedures. Requires the ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations. Must have excellent attention to detail, and accuracy, while adhering to deadlines Must be able to multitask and work independently. Requires competency in all basic computer operation skills. Must be able to attain working knowledge of specialized application software functionality and data management standards. Ability to work with the public. Must have a valid driver s license.
