Description of Work

The Summer Internship Program offers college students in good academic standing the opportunity to learn about the work performed at NCDOT and to gain valuable exposure. There will be opportunities to work in a number of units across the state, with placement based on the student’s preferences and Department needs. Job duties will vary by assignment.

Work Session: May 12th through August 8th

Main Assignments Available:

Aviation, Bicycle and Pedestrian, Civil Rights, Communications, Construction, Contracts and Standards, Environmental Analysis, Fiscal, Geotechnical, Hydraulics, Human Resources, Location & Surveys, Maintenance, Materials & Tests, Photogrammetry, Project Development, Public Transportation, Rail, Right of Way, Roadside Environmental, Roadway Design, Structures Management, Traffic Management, Traffic Safety, Transportation Systems Management & Operations, Transportation Planning, Utilities.Most of these units are based in Raleigh. Construction, Maintenance and Project Development are functions of our fourteen Highway Divisions.

Job Locations:Positions are located statewide. Job locations depend on Department needs and current projects. Therefore, applicants must specify desired job location in the supplemental questions section. Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in an associates, bachelors, or masters level program at an accredited institution upon employment

  • Completed at least 24 semester hours upon employment

  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.3 (based on 4.0 scale)

  • Must demonstrate GPA by attaching a transcript
