Salary Grade NC06 Salary Range $33,272- $58,226

The Fleet and Material Management group of the Maintenance Operations and Fleet Management Unit is a service-oriented unit responsible for the development of specifications, requisitioning, inspection, and distribution of new high value highway construction and maintenance equipment and vehicles. This position requires hands-on technical work with routine construction, maintenance, and repair operations at facilities statewide with a variety of complexities. The incumbent is a working technician and participates in the maintenance, repair, and minor renovation work for electrical and plumbing in buildings, equipment, and utility systems. Position may have some responsibility in functions such as housekeeping, grounds, vehicle maintenance, drawing working plans for minor renovations and repairs, cost estimating of repairs and other projects. Position will service and maintain the fuel system, operation of water and/or wastewater treatment plants, participating in facility master planning, and outside bid package development and implementation. Reviewing and commenting on plan sheets from outside designers and contractors, monitoring and inspecting contractor construction and renovation projects, acting as liaison to local officials and/or regulatory agencies, and participating in the overall management and policy making for the facility/agency. The position normally works under general supervision and review and is responsible for inspecting the facility/agency for maintenance needs and for safety hazards. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Working knowledge of the standard practices and methods of electrical and plumbing services.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and work on blueprints, sketches, and schematics.

  • Demonstrated ability to train, direct, and supervising the work of others to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Working knowledge of building codes and all other rules and regulations governing repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze and interpret policies to resolve problems and questions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
