This is an Engineering Supervisor II position that manages and leads a team specializing in specialized maintenance initiatives and Disaster Recovery within State Maintenance Operations.

This position leads two teams; one team that oversees NCDOT’s fuel site maintenance and fuel site replacement program which focuses on environmental compliance and proper construction and maintenance of the 112 fuel sites across the state that are the responsibility of the Department. This includes development and administering of contracts for fuel site replacements, construction oversight and budgeting of the fuel site replacement program. This position requires proficiency in plan reading, engineering calculations, problem solving, and personnel management. This team also serves as a hub for data analytics across the greater Operations Unit, serving the Fleet and Material Management Unit for fleet data needs including rental rate analysis, utilization, fuel use, equipment complements, and other fleet related metrics, support for Operations Program Management for asset management data needs as necessary, and support for State Maintenance Operations for program data needs as necessary. This position also supervises the Disaster Recovery Engineer and team for disaster recovery efforts which administers NCDOT’s response and recovery program for natural and manmade disasters and winter storms. This position will also oversee other State Maintenance Operation initiatives that support maintenance activities including serving specialized projects (ARTEMIS) and District Office support as necessary.

Additional Expectations:

Ability to make final approval for complex or a broad variety/scope of program/project specifications for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes, and design needs. Ability to research alternatives and designs or analyze special details for non-standard items of work for programs/projects. Ability to determine program/project priorities, processes, and procedures. Ability to manage complex or broad variety/scope of programs/projects for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles and design needs and standards; ability to resolve/approve major project/program changes. Demonstrated ability to serve as technical expert in the area of assignment and may require ability to represent the agency/university as an expert regarding compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes, designs and statutes and address conflicting design constraints. Ability to participate and lead as needed in the development of long-range strategic goals.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
