Corteva Agriscience Research Assistant - Tissue Culture Lab in Waimea, Hawaii

Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join our team at our Waimea (Kauai), HI research station. Research Assistants assist with lab operations to meet the quality, quantity, and timeline targets for project deliverables. They may be asked to execute on a variety of lab related tasks such as set-up, maintain, operate, and clean laboratory instruments and equipment, as well as prepare media and materials and extract plant embryos from seed. They must follow good lab practices and sterile technique at all times. Research Assistants must also be comfortable using computers and mobile devices. Most importantly, they need a collaborative attitude, good communication and critical thinking skills, and a commitment to quality. Research Assistants may be asked to serve as a crew lead, which entails supervising contingent workers.
What You'll Do:
• Perform all tasks associated with the production of high quality plantlets via embryo rescue, which may include:
• Preparing media and other materials
• Cleaning ears of maize, extracting embryos
• Selecting embryos based on phenotype
• Taking notes and collecting data
• Set-up, maintain, operate, and clean laboratory instruments and equipment
• Keep lab and work area clean and follow sterile technique and good lab practices
• Ensure that all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with experiment instructions, research protocols, company policies, and regulations
• Communicate regularly and openly with the team and supervisors about workflow and experiment status, especially when there are questions or problems
• Complete routine and moderately complex duties without instruction in a timely manner and apply judgment to resolve any roadblocks to completion
• Participate in protocol development and process improvement programs (safety, efficiency, effectiveness)
• Support all Waimea Research Center-wide goals and initiatives. Interact and assist other projects at the location as needed
• Promote positive work attitudes and harmonious relations
What Skills You Need:
• You have a High School Diploma/GED or are willing to obtain a GED within 18 months of employment.
• You reside in Hawaii
• You have Corn embryo rescue experience
• You are willing and able to occasionally lift and carry 20-50 lbs. of weight with or without reasonable accommodations
• You are willing and able to complete repetitive motions with wrists and hands, sit, stand, walk for prolonged periods, stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch, with or without reasonable accommodations
• You have close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• You are comfortable in all environments so you’re willing and able to work in warm conditions and in variable environments, including partially enclosed structures
• You are willing and able to work overtime/weekends/holidays when necessary
• You can read and communicate in English as well as work in a team of diverse cultural backgrounds and languages
• You have basic mathematic skills
• Your fine-motor skills and eye-hand coordination are strong
• You pay attention to detail
What Makes You Stand Out :
• Basic computer literacy for printing or using mobile devices
• Familiarity with good lab practices and sterile technique

The salary range for this position is $50,169.00 to $55,744.00.
This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
