Danaher Corporation Manager, Systems Software Engineering in Vista, California

About the Job:

You will lead a development team responsible for Aperio Scanner Systems Software (Embedded Software, User Interface and Device Algorithm) design, development, sustainment, integration, test and release. You will lead the team in a medical device regulated environment and contribute to the technology roadmap, new product development projects, and support of sustainment activities for the systems.


  • Multi-year experience as a technical lead, technical project manager or group manager

  • Practical experience leading a software scrum team in an Agile environment

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead cross functional team for development and release of complex systems

  • Proven capability to deliver upon the necessary Design Controls required for product development in the Clinical space

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the technical specialties needed to develop software for complex electromechanical and automated systems: development of requirements, system software architecture, software design, hardware and software interfacing and digital image acquisition

  • A talent for delivering high quality products and anticipating future trends as well as implications

  • Work closely with product owners, technical leads, architects and product managers to develop scalable and sustainable platform for systems software of digital scanners

  • Establish team priorities to drive momentum and maintain efficiency, helping to remove barriers when necessary

  • Establish operational objectives, work plans, and delegate assignments to the Systems Software Engineering staff for sustaining and new product development projects

  • Acting voice in strategy and roadmap development with a focus on modernization and improving developer experience

  • Develop others through mentorship, feedback and skill broadening assignments

  • Utilize Critical thinking to manage complexity and solve problems by acquiring data from multiple and diverse sources

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams across the organization to understand internal and external partner requirements, expectations and needs

  • Establish department processes and standard work

  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional team in manufacturing, software quality, operations and collaborate closely with the Systems Hardware team throughout development

  • Drive and manage development of product development Design History File (DHF) activities including project plans, creating design specifications, developing design output, design verification & validation protocols and reports all according to Quality Management Systems Processes

Nice to have:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead product development within regulated medical product development environment (FDA, ISO)

  • Expertise and experience in Brightfield or Fluorescence Digital Imaging or other medical imaging modalities

  • Expertise in development of embedded software and algorithms for high precision automated vision systems

  • Expertise in image-based algorithm development, digital image acquisition and procession, file formats and image compression methods

  • Follower of the DevOps and DevEx movements

  • Experience with visual management and/or lean practices


  • BS or MS in Computer, Electrical Engineering or other equivalent engineering fields or equivalent work experience
