Job Description

The Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center at Beaumont is seeking candidates for a full-time technician in the field of crop production with a special focus on sustainability. This is a limited term position funded by USDA NIFA Sun Grant and is available immediately. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds and satisfactory performance, up to a maximum of two years. The appointment will be supervised jointly by Drs. Yubin Yang, Fugen Dou, and Lloyd Ted Wilson.

The Technician III serves as lead technician within assigned section. Supports project research that assesses the economic viability and environmental sustainability of rice and bioenergy (energycane and biomass sorghum) crop production.

Responsibilities ( include, but not limited to) :-Serves as lead technician within assigned section.

-Conduct field crop planting and routine field crop management.

-Collect and process samples of soil, water, greenhouse gas, plant biomass, and biodiversity.

-Conduct sample processing and analysis.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:-Bachelor’s degree in soil science, agronomy, biology, or a close-related field from an accredited institution. -Three years of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior experience with agricultural research and field operations is desired.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-S trong interest in sustainable agriculture research.

-Ability to work as part of an integrated team and demonstrate interpersonal communication skills.

-Possess sufficient field operation, crop management.

-Ability to lift items at least 50 lbs related to soil, water, and plant tissue sampling.

-Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.

-Skilled in use of relevant laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

-Ensure attention to detail. Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Salary:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
