Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Field Service Technician will perform advanced diagnostics and fault locating on underground power cables in various markets including industrial and utility applications. This role will interact with a direct power distribution customers and contractors onsite, operate diagnostics equipment, acquire test data, and communicate with the remote support team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Testing/diagnosing/fault locating or tracing for medium to high voltage cable

  2. Reading and interpreting mechanical prints, electrical prints, and other related technical documentation.

  3. Bill out trucks w/miscellaneous items to be shipped out to other plants (this includes producing an MSO).

  4. Operate and interpret data with a Time Domain Reflectometer, AC/DC Hi Pot, VLF/Tan Delta, Partial Discharge test set, MV cable and fault locater (thumper).

  5. Responsible for working safely with no electrical contact, incidents or personal injuries

  6. Enhance and advance a below zero incident safety culture and behavior

  7. Comprehend and follow OSHA and company safety rules

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Self-starter with the ability to operate remotely from the main office with minimum supervision

  2. Availability for assignments with short notice

  3. Strong competency in instrument systems technology including mechanical, electrical, and software technology

  4. Ability to think and act in a logical and methodical way

  5. Able and willing to travel on a regular basis
