Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for leading and overseeing the activities of the support staff personnel assigned. Duties also include providing legal support work to the Chiefs, Branch Chiefs and Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Criminal and Civil Division. Typical work assignments will include: - Planning, organizing, and directing the activities of assigned staff, holding employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments. - Approving leave schedule assuring adequate coverage for peak workloads any traditional holiday vacation time. - Examining, preparing and processing a variety of technical legal documents, e.g., complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, and subpoenas. - Providing assistance to attorneys in trial preparation. - Assembling exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents. - Reviewing legal documents and/or reports prepared by other staff members. - Assembling and organizing files and records material for disposition or transfer to records depository. -Maintaining calendar of assigned active cases. -Tracking filing, hearing, and trials dates, and scheduling conference and interviews. -Producing a variety of written documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications. -Preparing hearing and trial documents accurately and in proper format. -Developing, updating, and maintaining forms and policies. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing administrative and technical guidance to employees; Planning, organizing, reviewing and directing the activities of staff; performing complex legal support work relating to the examination, preparation and processing of legal documents and materials; Providing assistance to attorneys in trial preparation; Assembling exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents; Preparing other documents accurately and in proper format; developing, updating and maintaining forms and policies. Producing a variety of written documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications; Independently researching, evaluating, and coordinating information to establish facts and issues of specific cases; giving advice, counsel and instruction on work and administrative matters. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
