South Carolina Connections Academy (SCCA) is a tuition-free, K–12 online public school. The school was launched in 2008–09 under contract to the South Carolina Connections Academy Charter School. SCCA is South Carolina’s very first virtual charter school, authorized by the South Carolina Public Charter School District. The school serves students in grades K–12 from anywhere in South Carolina.

Position Summary:

The College and Career Readiness (CCR) Coach works with identified students, their parents, school staff, and community stakeholders to improve the students’ educational and career outcomes in order to ensure students are college and/or career ready. The individual in this position will assist with coordinating the school’s efforts in supporting students in becoming knowledgeable about college and career readiness standards and how to meet the requirements to achieve their goals. Essential work tasks will consist of teaching a career readiness prep course and providing resources to support student success on the ACT and SAT. In addition, the CCR coach participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and priorities to create an effective and successful college and career readiness program.

Key Responsibilities:

Working full-time from home, certified teachers will “virtually” manage instructional programs. Through various curriculum and communication tools, they will consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program.

The College and Career Readiness Coach will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

• Creates and modifies lessons and assessments that prepare students to take the WIN/ACT/SAT assessments in accordance with the academic curriculum.

• Utilizes instructional strategies that take into consideration students’ instructional needs with high levels of student engagement.

• Uses formative and summative data to responsively plan instructional, college and career readiness activities, and teaches mastery of key skills.

• Monitors student progress and adjusts teaching strategies to ensure a strong focus on closing the achievement gap in college and career readiness indicators and ensuring all students meet the learning objectives.

• Collaborates with teachers and school counselors to incorporate and promote career and college readiness goals in classroom instruction for all students.

• Coordinates special classroom activities in collaboration with school counselors to introduce students to career and post-secondary options.

• Creates and maintains college and career readiness classroom message boards.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Certified to teach High School English in South Carolina (appropriate to grade level responsibilities)

• Must reside in South Carolina

• Strong technology skills (especially with MS Office programs and Google Suite)

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

• Highly organized and punctual

• Customer focused approach

• High degree of flexibility

• Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment

• Team player track record

• Willingness to travel on occasion for school and state testing events (may require occasional overnight travel)

• Ability to work remotely, if necessary

• Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed, to support some families

• Must be able to use a personal electronic device and email address for 2-step authentication.
