GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Family Services (DFS) is hiring passionate individuals who are ready to make a difference in the lives of Wyoming children and families. The role of a Social Service Worker directly correlates with the values of the Department by assessing safety, providing intervention, and securing stability for children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Investigates reports of abuse/neglect to determine appropriate action needed for child safety.

  • Writes and assists in implementing child and family service plans.

  • Prepares detailed case documentation.

  • Advocates for high-risk juveniles.

  • Monitors, assesses, and addresses community service and restitution needs and maintains a schedule of restitution responsibilities.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Possesses a valid driver's license.

Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call hours.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of accepted best practices of social services.

  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to Social Work.

  • Knowledge of the court system, juvenile protection laws, and federal and state laws.

  • Knowledge of human development, family dynamics, human behavior psychology, child psychology, aging, child abuse, and neglect.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Social Services)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Social Services Programs) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Social Services Aide

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Social Services Programs) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Social Services Aide

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position takes place in a potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situation.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt

  • All job offers within the Department of Family Services are contingent upon passing a background check, including the taking of fingerprints, which will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for every successful applicant.
