    Summary

    Responsible for all mechanical components, assemblies, and modification of the various types of simulator devices. This includes but is not limited to common tasks such as cutting, drilling, fitting, riveting, bending, layout, gluing, and an assortment of assembly fastening techniques.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, drawings, to fabricate complex assemblies.

  • Ability to read precision measuring equipment and measure parts to determine specified tolerance.

  • Install fasteners, rivets drills, taps, reams, countersinks, and spot faces bolt holes in parts, position and aligns parts based on the requirements specified on drawings, schematics and in work procedures.

  • Assist in simulator teardown and packing of simulator components for shipment.

  • Support simulator modification and upgrades in-house and at customer sites.

  • Support relocation of commercial or military training devices domestic or overseas.

  • Assist in organizing day-to-day activities of resources in mechanical assembly department.

  • Analyze and resolve work problems as they arise.

  • Maintain gang box inventory and coordinate tool requirements assuring the tools are available.

  • Present status reports of activity on installations.

  • Become familiar with the requirements of the On-Site Device Installation Verification procedure before performing on-site verifications.

  • Assure safety awareness and requirements at site are in accordance with applicable Company and Customer safety policies and procedures.

  • Perform receiving inspection for shipping damage and inventory of materials/products received at site.

  • Document any crates/parts on the shipping documents and notify The Program Manager (PM), and Production Control (PC) assigned to the specific program, if such damages require replacement of parts.

  • Document any shortages on the Bill of Material (BOM) and notify the assigned Production Control of shortages.

  • Monitor budgeted hours for project teardown, pack, ship, and installation (TPSI) then report performance against standard hours.

  • Verify the workmanship per Company and Customer workmanship standards by performing visual inspection of mechanical assembly installations and electrical connections for conformance to drawing/schematic requirements.

  • Complete the Device/Kit Installation Onsite Checklist for all site installations.

  • Exercises initiative in completing recurring assignments independently.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree.

  • At least 5 years of experience in aircraft structural repair, sheet metal, or simulator and training device assembly or installation.

  • Must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations with other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to figure percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Must have a good knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical hand tools and be able to effectively use them (Hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers and scales, pneumatic and manual drills, rivet guns, fastening tools such as clamps and clecos shop equipment such as drill presses, brakes, and shears etc.).

  • Must have a sound understanding of military and commercial workmanship standards.

  • Must be willing and able to assume work assignments away from the facility for extended periods of time (40% of the year) and be willing to work rotating shifts.

  • Must be able to work from parts lists, assembly drawings, schematics, engineering orders, engineering change orders, engineering logs, CAE workmanship standards and CAE manufacturing procedures / work instructions.

  • Must have basic computer skills for time reporting and work order processing.

  • Must be able to perform work assignments with minimal supervision.

    Preferred Skills

Additional skills or experience that would be considered favorable for a candidate who is applying for this position.

  • Airframe’s portion of the FAA A&P license or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Previous experience installing large motion enhanced simulation or training devices a plus.

  • Operate a Forklift

  • Operate a Scissor lift.

    Security Responsibilities

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval.  All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

    Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

    Work Environment

This job operates in a production/manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • Compliance to OSHA and Site Safety regulations are required.

  • Steel/Composite toe shoes/boots are required.

    Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to lift and carry various simulator assemblies weighing up to fifty (50) pounds

  • Work near moving mechanical parts and loud noises.

  • Work in high, precarious places.

  • May be required to work in outdoor weather conditions.

  • Ability to stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for long periods.

  • Climb or balance on an approved safety ladder.

  • Good and/or corrected eyesight for assembly and inspection tasks.

  • Must be willing to work overtime.

  • Moderate to high levels of stress, associated with technical, schedule, and customer issues are to be expected. Extended work hours and possible 2nd and 3rd shift assignments are likely to be encountered.

  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
