Job Summary

Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing patrol and security work at a City facility or related area. Exercises no supervision.

Work Location

900 E. Market St.

Work Schedule

Shifts listed below and vary based on assignment

  • 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

  • 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

  • 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.

    Schedules will vary with shifts being subject to change to include days, nights, weekends, and holiday shift work schedules as dictated by business needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Patrols assigned areas to eliminate or report fire hazards, deter thefts, vandals, or violence.

  • Takes necessary action to detain or prevent entry by unauthorized persons.

  • Checks buildings, facilities and equipment fixtures and as necessary reports on conditions by often touring, moving about and observing.

  • Monitors and maintains station at entry/exit point to City activities.

  • Provides information and directions to customers and the general public.

  • Maintains activity logs using office equipment and communicates or dispatches through the use of a two-way radio.

  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).

  • One (1) year experience as a Security Guard or security related experience.

  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of Security experience.

  • Excellent verbal, written and computer skills.

  • Professional people skills.

  • Have traits such as Team, Integrity, Critical Thinking, and Vigilance.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

  • Knowledge of applicable security guard orders, requirements, instructions, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of First Aide, safety rules, procedures, and practices.

  • Knowledge of crowd control techniques and procedures.

  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and methods.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good public relations.

  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

  • Working conditions are in a large building complex or stadium environment with occasional exposure to hostile people and emergency situations.
