Job Description

The Research Specialist III, under general direction performs research work involving performance of assignments which may involve planning and directing certain phases of research project.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Center Director and Center Faculty to develop novel agricultural, electronic and mechanical engineering solutions to crop breeding and selection, crop production, harvesting, and post-harvest handling of commodity, vegetable and fruit crops important to the agricultural economy of the Texas Rio Grande Valley. ​

  • Compiles, analyzes, interprets, and reviews data and metadata. Collects samples, performs analysis on samples, and extracts measurement data from experiments. Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.

  • Performs analysis and tests. Makes and records observations and scientific measurement

  • Develops and maintains training materials for external users. Trains students or others in laboratory and field research and methods. Audits protocols.

  • May attend local, national, and international meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electronic or Agricultural Engineering.

  • E ight years of related experience.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with teams of scientist and staff.

  • Ability to design, fabricate, test, validate, and commercialize novel agricultural instruments and equipment.
