The Texas A&M Institute of Data Science (TAMIDS) pursues new approaches to data science research, education, operations, and partnerships. These approaches cross college boundaries to connect elements of Data Science from engineering, technology, science and the humanities, and inform wider social challenges. What We Want

TAMIDS is seeking a Research Specialist I who will develop data analytics functionality and software systems that support research collaborations and operation of TAMIDS programs. The holder of this position will also join TAMIDS service role in providing consultation to Texas A&M faculty, researchers, and students to assist them in integrating Data Science tools and methods into their research and educational programs. The preferred candidate will have a master’s degree in a field related to Data Science or equivalent experience and 4 years relevant professional experience using computational Data Science to solve problems in one or more domains. What You Need To Know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus four years of experience in data analytics, software systems development or a related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with common programming languages such as C, C++ and Python.

  • Knowledge of common methods in unsupervised and supervised machine learning.

  • Knowledge of common tools and libraries Data Science libraries.

  • Ability to build end-to-end systems integrating data, analytics, and user interfaces.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a field related to Data Science or equivalent experience and 4 years relevant professional experience using computational Data Science to solve problems in one or more domains.

Responsibilities

  • Research Systems Development - Develops data analytics and software systems for research and service projects. Works with TAMIDS and partners to define end-to-end system design encompassing data, analytics, software tools, and user interfaces. Identifies needs and incorporates advanced Data Science / ML / AI functionality into solutions. Maintains documented repositories of reusable code following best practices.

  • Research Consulting and Operations- Provides consulting in TAMIDS programs that help users incorporate computational and analytic aspects of Data Science into research and education. Designs and develops software and tools that implement TAMIDS programs in research, education, training and outreach

  • Mentorship and Training- Mentors students participating in TAMIDS programs, research, and courses that are associated with the Research Specialist’s research and development projects Disseminates expertise in workshops or tutorials based on their projects or associated software tools.
