Job Description

Under limited supervision, serves as the primary research leader for the International Goat Research Center, conducts and coordinates independent research activities, programs, and activities of the Goat Center, and develops and implements ongoing research.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership general oversight, and management of the IGRC and serves as the primary point of contact. Seeks and secures extramural funding that supports goat research and enhances student experiential learning, publishes research results in peer-reviewed journals, and maintains academic and professional visibility regionally and nationally.

  • Develops and provides leadership and support for the Animal System and International Goat Research Center within the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC). Observes University and CAHS administrative policies to ensure full research compliance with mandated training and implementation of the institutional program for animal care and use. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Leads in the development and coordination of an independent research program in animal reproduction, nutrition, health or functional genomics, also identifies and initiates research collaborations with external scientist, and develops technologies that increase animal production efficiency and enhances economic opportunities for limited-resource farmers in Texas and other CAHS clientele.

  • Participates in CAHS outreach programs, including field day, educational programs, youth animal science projects, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, also prepares extension publications to reach audiences who can benefit from ongoing research, and distributes surveys to students and faculty.

  • Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, and committees and performs other duties as necessary.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree in Animal or Biological Science and/or related science.

  • Six (6) years of related experience.

  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications, demonstrated success in securing external grants for research projects.

  • Prior leadership experience in research, development, production and analysis is preferred.
