Job Description

This position will plan, review, administer, and implement the biochemical and biotechnological aspects of the agricultural and scientific research mission of the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center as guided by the higher education mandate of the University.

Responsibilities:

  • Presents findings to stakeholders, especially limited resource clientele through different outreach platforms; Mentors research team members, including students, junior scientists, post-doctoral researchers, and visiting scientists.

  • Complies with compliance requirements including observing TAMUS, University, and CAHS policies and requirements; Serves on University and external committees such as peer review panels for funding agencies, search committees, and professional society committees.

  • Conducts research consistent with Plant Systems and CAHS objectives and aligned with university mission in the area of Biochemistry of Vegetables, Fruits, and Medicinal Plants. Provides administrative and intellectual leadership to the Plant Systems Research unit; Coordinates research efforts of this unit to conduct activities that are relevant to the needs of the citizens of Texas: Develops strong collaboration with counterparts in the Cooperative Extension Program (CEP) to address the needs of the citizens of Texas.

  • Pursues and obtains external research funding, shares discoveries through peer-reviewed publications, and presents outcomes at conferences, seminars, and various other forums.

  • Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, and committees and performs other duties as necessary.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Doctorate degree in a related discipline.

  • Six years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of appropriate laboratory and technical equipment.

  • Knowledge of statistical analyses and statistical analysis software.

  • Knowledge of research in practical and/or basic sciences and scientific publications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently once given a project.
