Job Description

T h i s faculty position i s a 100 % re s earch , 12 - mo n t h appointment involved in multiple cat projects covering diverse topics including movement ecology, transportation-related research, SECR and O ccupancy modeling , and conservation genetics . We seek a passionate scholar to be part of an exciting wild cat research program focused on field research, quantitative analyses, and mentoring younger professionals . Some international research ( s outhern Africa, northern Israel) and international conferences may be a part of this position . Current target species include ocelot, jaguarundi, bobcat, jaguar (Mexico), leopard (Botswana), and jungle cat (northern Israel). Guest lectures in a graduate conservation biology class every other year will occur . R esearch results will be shared with stakeholders, S ociety, and the scientific community through scientific publications and presentations . A portion of the successful applicant’s activities will be to assist the team leader with program needs and responsibilities . We are seeking applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: movement ecology, population genomics, SECR and Occupancy models, and/or cat behavior including spatial memory and cognition. F ield work will be a major part of this position.

Re sp o n s ibili t i e s :

  • Continue to support and underpin the research, management, and activities of the 40-year ocelot program .

  • Mentor undergraduate / graduate students in their professional development , including publications & presentations.

  • Assist project and program needs ; lead and monitor compliance ( e.g., IACUC, technology export control ) .

  • Assist program leader in pursuit of special research projects and targeted funding opportunities .

    Q u a li f i c a t i o ns :

  • P h .D. i n w il d l i f e s c i e n c e, ecology, conserv ation biology , or re l a t ed f i e l d f r o m a n accre d it ed un i v er si t y .

  • Proven excellence in wild cat, carnivore , or wildlife ecology demonstrated by record of research & productivity.

  • Demonstrated self-initiative to work independently and skills to work within a team.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, professionals, lay audiences, ranchers, and other scientists.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful research experience and expertise with wild cats.

  • Str o n g q u a n t i t a t i v e s k ills particularly in movement ecology, spatial & ecological software, and /or genomics software.

  • D e m on st ra t ed a b ili t y t o w o rk e ff e c ti v el y w i t h private landowners, f a c u l t y , st u d e n ts , a n d st a t e / f e d era l agencies .

  • Abilities to contribute in a collaborative team environment and a strong background in small population biology .
