RN: Yes, if greater than 2 years’ experience LPN: No – no exceptions Travelers must live 100 miles away from any * facility Previous permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler Patient Types: Adults with a variety of diagnoses including CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM, DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremors. Patient Ratios: RN: PCU/Tele - 1:4 (Days & Nights) Med/Surg – 1:5 (Days & Nights) CNA: 1:8 (Days & Nights) Required Certifications: RN : (PCU & Tele): BLS, ACLS LPN: BLS required; ACLS preferred CNA: certified CNA, BLS is not required (per NM) Required Education: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing Skills required: If traveler has experience outside of this specialty – please include this is your offer details ICU RN qualified to float to ED PCU RN qualified to float to ICU PCU RN: cardiac and vasoactive drip titration – please request approval to offer without this experience, Cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV starts, Blood product administration, CIWA, drain/tube management, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management, insulin drips - both DKA and non-DKA, continuous bladder irrigation, chest tube maintenance; Effective verbal and written communication, thorough physical assessments, strong clinical judgement, professional bedside manner, strong team player, positive attitude, adaptability Tele RN: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV starts, Blood product administration, CIWA, drain/tube management, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management, insulin drips - non-DKA only, continuous bladder irrigation, chest tube maintenance; Effective verbal and written communication, thorough physical assessments, strong clinical judgement, professional bedside manner, strong team player, positive attitude, adaptability Comfortability working alongside an LPN/Team Nursing: Our staffing model on our 6th floor where we cohort all of our med-surg pts is moving toward an RN paired with an LPN. Both would take their own patient loads, however, there may be some task swapping that occurs due to scope. We felt it was important that there is awareness to this so it is not a surprise, and hopefully can remain a positive experience for both LPNs & RNs LPN: Must have acute care Telemetry experience; Cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV starts, Blood product administration, CIWA, drain/tube management, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management, continuous bladder irrigation, chest tube maintenance, versed in wound care; Effective verbal and written communication, thorough physical assessments, strong clinical judgement, professional bedside manner, strong team player, positive attitude, adaptability; understanding of South Dakota LPN Scope of Practice Comfortability working alongside an RN/Team Nursing: Our staffing model on our 6th floor where we cohort all of our med-surg pts is moving toward an RN paired with an LPN. Support on the Unit: CNA (Ratio: 1:8 both Days & Nights) Charge nurse: Yes – 2 for the unit (free-floating), 24/7 Phlebotomy? Yes, 24/7 for peripheral blood draws only; RN will pull of Central lines IV/VAT Team: No Resource Nurse: Yes, Flex RN as staffing allows – assists with admissions, d/c, transfers, task items RT: Yes, 24/7 Hospitalist: Yes, 24/7 in house - most patients are followed by a hospitalist Paging system to communicate with providers Secure chat to communicate with providers Centralized Tele Monitoring: 24/7 to assist with Tele reading and alarm notifications Violent Incident Response team Charting System/Equipment: Epic – (preferred) please let CRT know if traveler does not have EPIC experience so they can ask approval Alaris Omnicell Floating: If yes, where? Adult Inpatient Units - Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, Oncology, ICU (depending on experience), Observation Could be floated within scope of practice and below Will float in rotation with other travelers Orientation: (facility and unit) 2 days of in class/online education (2) 12-hour shifts with a preceptor Scheduling: Weekend rotation – Every other or 50% weekends per 4-week schedule. Weekends are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? Travelers are not scheduled On Call hours, but may be placed On Call related to Low Census if hours are over guaranteed weekly hours OR traveler requests to be low censused On Call Holiday Expectations: Every other holiday minimum during contracted timeframe Approval of time off? Up to 7 days. Must extend contract if unable to work a full week to accommodate a 13-week contract. No RTO during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks every August).
