Project Description

DRT provides data, technology, and mission support to its federal public health partners. We collaborate to address diverse, complex, and emerging problems within the public health domains of environmental health, infectious disease, chronic disease, and emergency preparedness/response. Our support drives the adoption of emerging best practices and technologies to increase the usefulness and value of public health data. Our team develops innovative data capture and analysis techniques in the field to enhance emergency response efforts all around the world.

Job Summary

The Public Health Data Informatics Specialist works directly with public health professionals, analysts, and developers to create and maintain data models. The data may include infectious disease laboratory data epidemiological case data, and/or environmental health data. The Specialist will apply data standards such as HL7, CDA, FHIR, and OMOP. The Specialist will support interdisciplinary teams in developing and maintaining public health surveillance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the planning, development, and revision of public health data models and architectures.

  • Create clinical, laboratory, and epidemiological data architecture flows, data models, and map disparate data models to interoperable HL7 data models.

  • Participate in meetings and contributes to the technical design and solutioning of public health surveillance systems.

  • Recommends solutions to meet public health surveillance requirements using past experience and research findings

  • Conduct work in an agile manner with regular status updates on progress and blockers.

  • Research and recommend improvements to existing data structures.

  • Completes tasks on time with minimal supervision but supports collaboration across teams.

    Required Experience

  • Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust with the US federal government

  • Knowledge of data standards including HL7, CDA, FHIR, and OMOP, as well as clinical terminologies and vocabularies including Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC), Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine - Clinical Terms (SNOMED-CT)

  • Experience working with infectious disease laboratory data epidemiological case data, and/or environmental health data, including data processing and analytics

  • Experience developing and implementing health informatics standards in clinical systems or public health surveillance systems

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of public health data and related privacy requirements (HIPAA, PII, etc.)

  • Recent experience with HHS data to include the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) environment and standards: SDLC, technical architecture, release processes

  • Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies

    Education and Training

  • Degree(s) in Data Science, Computer Science, Public Health, or related field

    Currently due to the remote working status of the federal government, most DRT employees are teleworking from home and leveraging video conferencing along with other virtual productivity tools. Under normal circumstances, most of our positions are required to report onsite. However, DRT has not yet determined when employees will be required to return to their onsite workspaces. Please be aware that at the time a date is determined to return to the worksite, the requirement of this position may be to report in person to the work location.
