Job Description

Under general supervision, the Program Coordinator performs key responsibilities to connect researchers, faculty, and extension personnel with farmers/growers and other stakeholders. This position is for a recently USDA-NRCS-funded project under Texas's 10th congressional district. This project requires reaching selected counties within Texas's 10th congressional district. The program Coordinator will regularly visit selected farms, connecting farmers or, extension assistants or county agents to educate them on climate-smart farming through climate-smart experts. In addition, this position requires coordinating and organizing a series of workshops either at PVAMU or at the county to train farmers and growers on climate-smart smart approaches. The position also requires supporting project-related activities at the county level and PVAMU. This position is critical to link research and extension teams with farmers and growers.

This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule project meetings and workshops efficiently, ensuring all staff are informed and engaged.

  • Develop agendas, prepare materials, and oversee logistics for smooth execution of meetings and workshops, fostering productive collaboration and decision-making.

  • Maintain meticulous organization of program files and databases, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records related to project activities, resources, and outcomes.

  • Implement effective systems for document management and data tracking, facilitating easy access and retrieval of essential information for project administrators.

  • Act as the central liaison for the program, facilitating communication and information exchange among project team members, county agents, extension assistants, Principal Investigators (PI), and Co-PI's.

  • Respond promptly to inquiries, requests, and concerns, providing comprehensive support and assistance to all involved parties to ensure project success.

  • Conduct regular monitoring of farm activities, adhering to established protocols and procedures to gather relevant data and insights.

  • Collaborate with team members to collect, analyze, and interpret data effectively, contributing to the evaluation and refinement of project strategies and objectives.

  • Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs other duties as necessary.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Two years of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in physical science, agriculture, sociology, or ecology.

  • 3 years of experience is desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge/skills in program/project management.

  • Knowledge of MS Office.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others, including researchers, extension personnel, farmers, and other stakeholders.

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Considerable experience in fieldwork, field research design, and project implementations.

  • Strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams.
