The Production Manager will drive positive change, optimize operations, and ensure that our manufacturing team operates efficiently and effectively with oversight to production and shipping. This position will ensure safe production of quality product, while also developing a team for future priorities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • College degree in industrial technology, business, management, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience required.

  • Experience in a food processing or non-edible food processing environment required.

  • Experience leading, coaching and developing a team in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships in a cross-functional organization preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Coordinates production area workflow with the help of supervisors.

  • Troubleshoots production process including:

  • Coordinate weekly production with corporate scheduling to ensure customer needs are met and product can ship in a timely manner.

  • Assists maintenance personnel with repairs on equipment /machinery breakdowns or notifies appropriate personnel to coordinate outside repair services.

  • Ensure the flow of production, redirecting production employees to areas of the process needing immediate attention.

  • Acts as the Safety Coordinator for the plant.

  • Provides safety training, including all mandated sanitary policies and regulations, according to established procedures.

  • Participates in the communication, training, and development of new employees.

  • Documents and understands required data to control production processes.

  • Assists in the development, implementation, auditing, and updating of standard operating procedures.

  • In partnership with HR, responsible for the discipline of production personnel according to company policies and procedures.

  • Maintains a clean production area for safe working conditions.

  • Assists the Plant Manager in the development of the plant budget, forecasting personnel needs, equipment/machinery repairs or purchases, and facility improvements/additions.

  • Assists in verifying requirements for OSHA and USDA standards. Makes sure that standards are maintained, necessary logs are up-to-date, and reports are prepared.

  • Has complete understanding of lean principles and uses them in day-to-day activity.

  • Practices continuous improvement in the manufacturing process.

  • Ensures fundamental food safety and quality practices are maintained to achieve food safety and quality objectives and to support the development, implementation and maintenance and ongoing improvements of food safety programs.

  • Ensure strict compliance with safety, financial, and environmental policies.

  • Anticipate and lead change initiatives, fostering a competitive environment that maximizes value for the business.

  • Identify and implement manufacturing methods and equipment which enhance product quality, production throughput, and cost efficiency in collaboration with corporate teams.

  • Develop your manufacturing team, fostering elevated levels of contribution.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve quality issues promptly.

  • Develop and implement key metrics and process indicators for manufacturing activities, continuously optimizing manufacturing effectiveness.

  • Monitor and act upon key performance indicators to ensure manufacturing operations meet performance expectations through lean manufacturing techniques and industry best practices.

  • Transform plant practices to accommodate the needs of new products and emerging technologies.

  • Work closely with financial and management teams to execute strategies that support profit and loss goals.

  • Operates forklifts and non-motorized pallet jacks as needed.

  • Assumes responsibilities of Production Supervisor(s) in their absence.

  • In the absence of the Production Manager, the Plant Manager or a Production Supervisor will cover the duties of the role.

  • General knowledge of OSHA standards and safe work practices.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with personnel, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and other business-related contacts.

  • Ability to operate all necessary office equipment required to accomplish job duties, such as computer, telephone, fax machine, etc.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to adhere to USDA recordkeeping requirements.

  • Knowledge of the industry, dryer, cooker operation processes.

  • Leads continuous improvement activities and works to implement permanent solutions for downtime.

  • Effectively manages a team of direct report supervisors, providing coaching and feedback with regard to performance and leadership of their respected teams.

BASIC MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

This job requires the mental capabilities to analyze the production processes to develop manufacturing techniques/procedures to attain a quality finished product produced in a safe, timely and efficient manner. Furthermore, the incumbent for this position must have the abilities to solve problems as they arise, strives to improve upon current processes, and excellent communication skills in conveying the production process to plant personnel.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPOSURES:

General manufacturing working conditions exists. Exposures include, but are not limited to chemicals, caustics, temperatures ranging from freezing to extreme heat, noise, dust, and moving equipment and machinery. Additionally, the incumbent for this position may be required to stand for an extended period of time on slippery tile and/or concrete floors.
