Description

Do you want to utilize your knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide a safe and nurturing environment that is designed to promote learning opportunities for children? If so, the City of Harrisonburg's Parks & Recreation Department's Pre-School Coordinator position may be the right job for you!

The Pre-School Coordinator is a part-time position (no benefits) with a preferred hiring range of $21.69 - $23.86 per hour; however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy.

As the Pre-School Coordinator, you'll have the opportunity to perform a variety of leadership and supervisory duties while planning, coordinating, and running the City of Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation Pre-School Program (ages 3 and 4). In this role, you'll supervise pre-school instructors, plan and implement pre-school activities, programs, and services, conduct parent/teacher conferences, administer student evaluations, and operate a City vehicle in the performance of job duties. As the program is regulated and licensed through the Virginia Department of Education, you'll periodically meet with Department of Education representatives to ensure maintenance of State licensing requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Endorsement or bachelor’s degree in a child-related field such as, but not limited to, elementary education, nursing or recreation from a college or university and one year of programmatic (working directly with children) experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • 21 years of age or older.

  • Possession of or ability to obtain CPR/first aid and medication administration certification within 30 days from hire date.

  • Availability to work approximately 25 hours per week from approximately mid-August to mid/late May each year, required.

  • The City's pre-school program is licensed under the Commonwealth of Virginia as a daytime child care center, and candidates must meet minimum standards as set forth by the Department of Education.

The selected candidate for this position will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:

  • DMV record review;

  • Drug screen;

  • Fingerprinting;

  • Tuberculosis (TB) test; and

  • Criminal background investigation.
