Job Description:Position will work using biocomputation, statistical genetics, and genomics to work on computational pipelines for genotyping, QTL analysis, genomic selection, and ploidy/CNV determination in autopolyploid species, and to apply these tools for genomics-assisted breeding.

Job ResponsibilitiesWork on a multi-institutional USDA-NIFA-SCRI project to enhance black spot and rose rosette disease resistance. Coordinate phenotyping, genotyping, and data analysis using computational pipelines for genotyping, QTL analysis, genomic selection, and ploidy/CNV determination in autopolyploid roses. Apply genomics-based methods to enhance disease resistance in a rose-breeding context. Work with graduate students on research germane to this project.

Required Education:• Ph.D. degree in plant genetics, genomics, breeding, or closely related field

Research Related Duties:• Independently plan and conduct the pertinent research• Undertake data analysis relevant to the project• Communicate research results at professional meetings• Publish research outcomes in peer-reviewed papers• Write grants and apply for extramural funding• Assist with the supervision of graduate students• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong publication record• Excellent written and verbal communication skills• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• Experience in computer programming, particularly R and Python• Ability to work with databases• Experience with high-density genotypic data and other large genomics data sets• Experience with genotyping platforms, genotype calling, linkage mapping, and QTL analysis software• Experience with pipelines for analysis of autopolyploid data• Solid experience in statistical analysis of quantitative traits in polyploids• Experience with genotype-by-sequencing approaches• A sound understanding of plant breeding and genomics
